Hello, I'm Trilingual Rookie (or Hidden Wallflowers. You can call me either one!). I created this blog in 2014 so that I could post random content, including book reviews, artwork, advice, travel stories, etc. As time passed, however, I realized that I wanted to dedicate this blog to translations and languages instead of my personal life.
Anyone who speaks at least two languages will know that one can never (or rarely) truly capture the essence of one language and translate it to another. As a girl who grew up reading and understanding texts of all languages, I was sometimes incredibly frustrated due to horrible translations! So much was lost in translation! Hence! I'm not master of languages. I'm a grasshopper and I've got much to learn. But I wanted to give translating a shot. I wanted to see if I could translate better than some others out there.
By maintaining a blog in which I post translations (and analyses) of poems, books, short texts, etc., I trained my abilities and saw my limits. There's a difference between translating something word by word and really translating. So far I think I'm translating word by word. This makes me a little sad, but I'm taking things slowly. I want to learn how to appreciate languages and words.
My goal is to further develop my ability to translate. I am planning to study English, Korean, French, and Spanish in the future.
I'd also like to add that my interests aren't singular. I'm not only interested in translating. I absolutely love writing (especially fiction) and reading! I also like to eat chocolate, discover new locations, and bake burnt cookies. And this may sound creepy to some, but I love drawing babies in jars.
